My passion for ethical shopping was instilled in me from my parents, who always taught us to be aware of our responsibility for the environment and as consumers. As someone who works in fashion, clothing makes up a large percentage of my work and social life, which for me personally, further cements the need to be aware WHERE these clothes originated and taking responsibility for where I put my money. It’s about cutting out capitalist ‘Hype’ around our clothing, and reconnecting and respecting them.

I believe sustainability in all industries is very significant and should be a priority in order to benefit our future generations. My dream was to be a fashion designer but when I learned about the harsh realities about fast fashion my focus changed to designing slow fashion and I started an upcycling/sustainable style blog in order to help shed light and spread awareness on some of these environmental and ethical problems. I want to help provide solutions and sustainable options for people by working with other like-minded entrepreneurs and creatives.

More people today buy into consumerism and short-lived joy for little things, but forget they affect a bigger picture. When they find out about these negative things and how it affects the environment and people around them, they simply say "stay woke" and only know rather than do something about it. Know and take action.

Sustainability is a concept I've become invested in, trying to incorporate changes in my life that not only benefit me but benefit the world. For the past year, I've been exploring different ways to implement these changes into my lifestyle and that's where my search for ethical and sustainable clothing began. Fashion is a true form of expression and I intend to showcase my sense of style along with my morals and beliefs in a more sustainable future.

I started my journey in the fashion industry only at the age of 14, which has led me now to a higher education in a Fashion Marketing program. When I first started this program my intentions were different for where I wanted to see my future. I saw myself working my way up in the company I had been with, that retailer being a fast fashion company. This was until I learned about the negative impacts the fast fashion industry is having on the environment and those that work in the production factories. I couldn't turn a blind eye to what I had learned, this is why I chose to shift to focusing my studies towards creating a more sustainable and ethically driven world of fashion. I eventually want to help influence innovation in a positive direction for brands that care about the impact their company's are leaving on this earth. I am already collaborating with people from Fashion Revolution, the biggest non-profit organisation for encouraging the conversation of a positive fashion reformation. I truly believe that wonderful things can happen when people come together and decide to care rather than turn a blind eye. Caring is cool! I want to help in any way possible to encourage this conversation further.

Advocating is important because it affects more than just fashion. Having unethical and unsustainable fashion negatively affects the environment, the economy long-term, and people's behaviours. It's one of the many factors that don't get much attention at all and I would love to be a part of the movement and the community. I would want to get started in any way, but I believe that education is first, then action.

Ever since I was young my parents always taught me to buy quality clothing, that aren't made in sweat shops. They even considered thrift shopping, since it is a more ethical choice. A few years ago I started implying this lifestyle with the food I eat. I only buy organic because I don't support child/human labour. So many people are so unaware. They look at the price tag but don't know what is going on in other countries. The solution happening to our planet. Non organic foods and fast fashion is destroying our planet and our people. I want to be a part of this movement because I do have a big influence on people and I want to be a part of a movement that has the same beliefs as I do. It is rare to find movements like this. This will help me feel like I am making an even bigger difference tp society because I will meet like minded people and always find new ways to build awareness. These are the mind of things that make me happy in life.

The fashion industry remains one of the biggest international industries in the world and is undoubtedly, the most influential. After all, everyone wears clothes! That being said, its immense size comes with negative downsides for our beloved Earth so I strongly believe that even a small change from one person can make all the difference. It can be difficult at times I'll admit, especially with how tempting fast fashion can be, however, the more we contribute to the problem, the further we perpetuate it. Every action has an effect no matter how small or large.

Conventional fashion is a major polluter through both waste and emissions, both of which I want to help society avoid. I graduated from an environmental college with a Bachelors in Sustainable Energy Management which also gave me the opportunity to learn about impacts and sustainable/ethical enterprise in general; being a Sustainability Ambassador on my campus also gave me a better understanding of waste diversion. While I don't shop often I enjoy fashion and style as a means of creative expression through the clothes I already have and those which are borrowed from the past whether it be my mom's closet or the occasional thrift store trip. However, I do want to see the fashion industry as a whole keep up with the shift to sustainability due to its international implications.

Being an advocate for ethical and sustainable fashion is important to me, because I personally want to become more active in choosing where I get my apparel from. Through being an advocate I would also want to spread awareness of the same thing to others. Since most people are unaware of affordable, more cleaner alternatives for buying products, including fashion items.
